If you lurk around in the webmaster forums, you must have came across some posts like :

“Here is video database containing 1000’s of videos, download it free”

“Giving out 10000’s post database for free, download now”

“Free warez db download now, start your forum for free”

etc etc.

If you are a total noob in the making sites for profit niche, there is high percentage of chances that you will jump of your couch and say “wow I got a free db, i am off to start my new website now” and never even look much into what’s inside.

But I have always, whenever I see someone giving out free db in digital point, i always download it and look inside the code. And believe me when i say, 99% of times, these db as infested with their affiliate links or 1000’s of links pointing to the websites of the owner. So, if you happen to use the database, all you will be doing is benefiting them in terms of links or driving traffic to their websites.

You didn’t think that someone is handing out free databases just like that right? So, always check what’s inside that huge sql file you just downloaded and act accordingly. My advice will be to still download the database but do some parsing and scripting to turn the “benefit” tide towards yourself.

PS : I would like to add there are some people who are genuinely giving out good databases as public service, but there count is very very less.
